ANNA JONES: CHEF AND AUTHOR

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…..

I’m Anna. I’m a cook and a writer. I focus my cooking and writing on putting vegetables at the centre of our plates. On the joy and connection fo food and how we can eat and live in tune with the world around us. I live in Hackney with my husband John and my son Dylan. We spend a lot of time on our bikes in the woods and the marshes near where I live. I long to live by the sea though. I’m happiest floating in the sea, no matter what time of year.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I find inspiration in lots of places. I love the infectiousness of someone who is deeply passionate about what they do. When you can feel the words, art or cooking coming from their heart. It inspires me to get to that place and to bring my food and writing to the world from a place of passion. Of course as a food person, travel and eating food cooked by other chefs is a huge inspiration, though not that much of that has happened this last year.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?

The older I get the simpler the things which make me happy. I think time and connection with people makes me very happy and its something I have desperately missed this year. I feel very grateful to have a great crew of women I love you who live near to me as well as some dear old friends who have sailed the last 20 years of life with me - being in the company of brilliant women lighten me up.

WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON AND WHY?

Chloë Sevigny. I think she is effortless and unpolished in the best possible way. There is irreverence to how she dresses and how she uses clothes. I love that she will wear a knockout dress but have her hair kind of messy and undone. She’s got attitude in the way she looks all of her own. I feel like she dresses for herself and I love to see that.

WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AND READING AT THE MOMENT?

I am really enjoying listening to my friends playlists on Spotify. We have music on the the house a lot but I am terrible at remembering the names of songs so playlists are a revelation for me. I am lucky to have a lot of friends with very good taste in music.

These are my favourite three reads at the moment - I have been reading Zadie Smith’s Intimations, Elena Ferrante My Brilliant Friend (for the third time) and Divines by Ellie Eaton.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT SIDELINE?

I feel like SIDELINE has jumped into my head and designed all the clothes I ever want to wear. I could buy almost everything from SIDELINE. The colours, the cuts, the practicality all feel like how I love to dress. But the clothes also feel special enough they have a uniqueness that set them apart and makes them feel like a special stand out piece. I buy clothes rarely these days so I try to make sure every purchase is special and will live in my wardrobe for years to come, SIDELINE feels like this. Buy less but buy to last. The sustainability values of SIDELINE feel close to my own and it feels good to support a small conscious brand doing things right.
